POW Days = Pay Days
The outdoor recreation economy is massive. It's larger than the pharmaceutical, forestry or agricultural industries and brings in almost as much money into the Canadian economy as fossil fuels. Snowsports play a huge role in that.
By the 2050s, if we don’t reduce our emissions, snow seasons in Canada are projected to be shortened by up to 25 days.
The outdoor industry has lost more than $5 billion over the past two decades due to climate change.
Yet, warmer, more erratic winters due to climate change are putting this entire Canadian sector at risk.
Representing $101.6 billion in annual spending and 1.1 million full-time jobs, Canada’s outdoor recreation economy is massive, and supports many communities full of hard-working and entrepreneurial Canadians.
From forest fires, to floods climate change has a strong impact on outdoor recreation, putting Canadian livelihoods, health and well-being at risk.
As we approach the next election, we call on each political party to Protect our Canadian Outdoor Recreation Economy by:
#1. Ensuring our rural communities, natural spaces, local outdoor recreation economies and businesses continue to thrive.
#2. Safeguarding our health, safety, and prosperity from the accelerating risks of climate change.
